Think Global, a private and nonprofit school is set to open in September 2010, so becoming world’s first global mobile high school. It opens to welcome its first ninth grade class and opines that the future of education requires agility, mobility and allowing students to cultivate an expansive world view.
The school offers the students an opportunity to study and live in three new international cities each academic year. By the end of the four years course each student will have studied in twelve different countries.
TGS adopts the International Baccalaureate Program as well as U.S. curriculum and accreditation, whereby all the students get educated in English. In the first TGS class around 15 students from all across the globe will get the admission. The revolutionary academic program of TGS encompasses the best classroom practices with immersive, experiential learning on a global scale. It also provides the students with an opportunity to learn about our world, meet new people and explore new cultures. The students getting exposed to such an education model can prepare themselves for success and fulfillment in life.
The academic school year 2010-2011 will be based in Stockholm, Sydney and Beijing/Hong Kong. TGS will recruit dedicated teaching staffs, who will live and travel in the school and provide TGS with the use of their school library, science labs for biology, physics and chemistry experimental work, and classroom space for certain academic courses and guest speakers. Both the teachers and students will make use of laptops, Apple(News - Alert) iPhone and MacBook along with other technologies in order to learn, synthesize and share the experience of TGS. The teachers will also provide special guidance to students in helping them take part in various sports and other recreational activities with their own students. TGG’S host schools for the first year will be Young Business Creatives in Stockholm and MLC School in Sydney, with a school in Beijing/Hong Kong to be selected shortly.
Each country where TGS travels with the students will become like a classroom where “experimental learning” takes place: students will learn to deal with the physics of a sinking ship at the Viking Vasa Museum in Stockholm, practice their Mandarin skills at MaLianDao Tea City in Beijing, and discuss contemporary literature with Australian author Danielle Wood in Sydney. By studying in TGS every student will develop the capacity and passion necessary to make a profound difference in the world.
“The vision for THINK Global School is to take the wonders of the world and make them our classroom,” said executive chair and founder, Joann McPike, who is also a photographer, world traveler and mother. “We will offer children an alternative to a customary deskbound education and the chance to experience the varied cultures, beliefs, languages and histories of 12 remarkable countries in all their splendor and complexities. Our world-class instructors and local guides and experts will pique students’ curiosity and nurture their ingenuity. THINK Global School will help our students develop the wisdom, tolerance, understanding and respect needed to create, question and eventually lead as outstanding, globally committed citizens.”
